Who can participate in the workshops?
The Writing Lab workshops are free of charge and open to all students at the University of Göttingen.

How do I register for a workshop?
Please register via StudIP.
Important: If you want to earn ECTS within a workshop, you also have to register for it in Flexnow. For workshops within the winter semestre, please register between October 1st and March 31th. For workshops within the summer semestre, please register between April 1st and September 30th.
I cannot register for Writing Lab workshop in Flexnow!

Who will help me?
It sometimes takes a while at the semestre's beginning until our workshops are unlocked in Flexnow. If you continue experiencing problems with the Flexnow registration, please contact the Examination Office at the Faculty of Humanities.

Can I get credits for the Writing Lab workshops?
In almost all Writing Lab workshops, you can earn credits in the area of key competencies, provided that your faculty or degree programme allows this. If in doubt, please ask your faculty's examinations office whether you can have the workshops credited.
Please note that credits for our workshops are usually not accepted by the Faculty of Business and Economics.

What kind of assessment do I have to complete in the workshops?
You must attend regularly and submit a portfolio. The workshop instructor will explain what the portfolio should contain during the workshop.

In which languages are the workshops held?
In the MultiConText workshops (with bilingual titles), the languages of instruction are German and/or English. At the beginning of each workshop, participants and instructors jointly agree on how the languages will be used in class. The workshop materials are consistently available in both German and English, so that each participant can choose which language version they would like to work with. All participants are also encouraged to bring in their other languages.
In the other workshops (with German titles), the language of instruction is German (minimum language level C1).

Does the International Writing Lab offer workshops on academic writing in English?
The ISL focuses on writing in multilingual contexts. This means that our workshops address, for example, how to deal with writing in a different language from the one in which you read texts or take notes. This applies in particular to our MultiConText programme. It also means that participating in our workshops is useful regardless of whether you write in German, English, or any other language. Our courses are not language courses; instead, the focus is on writing. You can find courses that focus, for example, on the English language at the Central Institution for Languages and Key Competencies (ZESS).

Are there special workshops for non-native speakers of German?
The Writing Lab does not offer workshops specifically for non-native speakers of German. The ISL's concept is based on the idea that students who speak German as their first, second, or foreign language learn with and from one another in the workshops. In which language do I have to complete the assessment for Writing Lab modules?
The assessment (usually a portfolio, see the module catalogue) for workshops with German titles must be submitted in German. In the MultiConText workshops (with bilingual titles), the assessment can be submitted in German or English or, in consultation with the workshop instructor, in other languages. The portfolio assignments are provided in both German and English.

Are the Writing Lab workshops offered every semester?
We try to offer the workshops every semester. Whether this is possible depends primarily on funding.

What is MultiConText?
The programme MultiConText offered by the International Writing Lab supports multilingual students in their academic writing processes. This support takes place in form of workshops and individual consultations.
To do so, we are building on your individual experiences and resources that you bring from other (academic) contexts, for example from studying in a different country.
The MultiConText offers can help you gain more confidence in academic writing and benefitting from your individual multilingualism.

Who can participate?
We welcome students of all faculties, especially multilingual students who study in a foreign language, use literature in several languages or bring with them a multilingual repertoire due to their biografical background.
