The Social Project of the Theologisches Stift Göttingen 2026
In the summer semester of 2026, we as the Theologisches Stift decided to support the children’s and youth hospice Sternenlichter in Göttingen with our donations.
The children’s and youth hospice Sternenlichter is a facility run by the DRK-Schwesternschaft Georgia-Augusta e.V. As the third inpatient institution of its kind in all of Lower Saxony, it supports parents, the seriously ill children, as well as their healthy siblings, relieves them, and provides stability for the entire family in a life situation that is often difficult for outsiders to imagine.
Children’s hospice care is often associated with the final days of life. However, this is not entirely accurate. In children’s and youth hospices, many affected families are supported over several years—throughout the entire course of the child’s illness, not just in the final phase of life. This is a major difference compared to hospices for adults. A prerequisite for admission is the diagnosis of an incurable, life-limiting illness of the child.
Like all 20 inpatient children’s and youth hospices in Germany, the Sternenlichter hospice is permanently dependent on donations. Its funding is not fully covered by health and long-term care insurance. Furthermore, there are no regular funding programs available for children’s and youth hospices.
