Postdoctoral Position in Religious Studies

At the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, the Chair of Religious Studies and Intercultural Theology has a vacancy as of April 1, 2025 or by agreement for one

Postdoc (f/m/d)


with 75% of the regular weekly working hours (currently 29,85 hours/week) for a limited period of 48 months (4 years). The salary is paid according to pay group 13 TV-L.

The research focus should be in one of the following areas or ideally combine them: global and entangled history approaches with at least one non-European focus; esotericism and alternative religiosity; as well as religion and political extremism.

The tasks include carrying out a research project with corresponding publication activities, obtaining third-party funding, the (co-)organization of academic events, as well as teaching 2 hours per week during each semester.

Prerequisites:

  • Very good doctorate in religious studies or a closely related subject.
  • Initial experience in research and teaching.
  • Willingness to integrate into the intercultural research environment of the chair and to participate in general tasks and academic self-administration.
  • Very good written and spoken English.
  • Good knowledge of German and a willingness to improve it are desirable.
  • Knowledge of a non-European language is desirable.
