SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS AND GOALS
My interest in molecular biology budded from the fascination with the idea that organisms are governed by molecular particles and arise from the principle of emergent properties. Through the research projects I have undertaken so far, I have become increasingly intrigued by mitochondrial biology – particularly its dynamic roles in sensing and adapting to environmental stress in the short and long terms, and whether such adaptations may facilitate an altered epigenetic landscape. In Göttingen, I hope to gain a deeper and broader understanding of molecular biology, possibly with a focus on mitochondria, while also expanding my scientific toolbox to be able to explore these topics independently. Inspired as well by the translational potential of molecular biology research in designing novel therapeutic approaches – which I witnessed at the Center of iPSC Research and Application firsthand – I hope to understand the effects of molecular processes not only at the cellular level but also across higher organizational levels. Ultimately, I aspire to contribute to research that can promote health at an organismal level.
