Prof. Dr. Dietmar von der Pfordten holds the chair for legal and social philosophy at the University of Göttingen. Previously he held the chair for legal and social philosophy at the University of Erfurt.

Prof. Dr. Dietmar von der Pfordten was also a visiting professor at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and at the University of Cagliari in Italy.
He was a member of the German Federal Government's advisory commission in connection with the return of cultural property confiscated as a result of Nazi persecution and of the Institute for Advanced Study in Hamburg.
