Prof. Dr. iur. Hans-Michael Heinig

Prof. Dr. Hans-Michael Heinig holds the chair for public law, especially canon law and state church law. From 2015 to 2020 he was head of the ethics committee at Georg-August University Göttingen, dean of the law faculty at Georg-August University Göttingen from 2022 to 2024 and has been vice president of the Volkswagen Foundation since 2022.

He is also a visiting professor at the University of Toronto, Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy, and at York University,
Osgoode Hall Law School.

Prof. Dr. Hans-Michael Heinig's research interests lie in the areas of law and religion. Above all, he deals with the legal questions of the welfare state, the law of political decision-making, and constitutional theory/legal philosophy
and academic law.
