Conference “50 Years of Criminal Law Reform”

The conference has been canceled.
On October 9 and 10, 2025, a conference on 50 years of the Criminal Law Reform Act will take place in Göttingen. The conference is being organized by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Michael Kubiciel (Augsburg) and Prof. Dr. Alexander Baur (Göttingen). There will be talks and discussions on the conceptual history and criminal policy, the foundations of criminal accountability, and legal consequences of criminal offenses.


Past events

  • On September 9, 2025, a panel discussion entitled “Lawmaking in Divided Times”, as part of the “Dialogues on Criminal Justice” event series, which the Chair has been offering in collaboration with the Stanford Criminal Justice Center since 2024, took place in Göttingen. David A. Sklansky (Stanford), Marco Buschmann (Former Federal Minister of Justice) and Christina Müller-Ehlers (BAG-S) participated, Alexander Baur (Göttingen) hosted.
  • On July 5, 2024, the conference of the Institute of Criminal Law and Justice at the University of Göttingen and the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology at the University of Bern, in cooperation with the Center for Medical Law at the University of Göttingen, was held in Göttingen under the title “Measures and Sanctions Law in Transition.”
  • On July 4, 2024, Prof. Alexander Baur gave his inaugural lecture in the Aula of the University of Göttingen on “Criminology in Crisis.”
  • On June 11, 2024, a panel discussion on the topic “‘'Forcing improvement? – Dealing with dangerousness in total institutions’” took place in the Emmy Noether Hall of the Alte Aula at Wilhelmsplatz. Prof. Alexander Baur moderated the discussion, with Prof. Axel Dessecker, Prof. Tanja Henking, Prof. Norbert Konrad, and Dr. Christian Riedemann participating as panelists.
