The Faculty of Social Sciences at Göttingen University is characterised by a wide range of subjects: ethnology, education, gender studies, political science, sociology and sports science, modern indian studies and an interdisciplinary institute for methods and methodologies. The research topics in the social sciences are correspondingly diverse and deal with social transformation processes from various perspectives.

    New in Goettingen in April 2026: Prof. Dr. Andreas Weich

    In April 2026, Andreas Weich took over the Educational Science division, specializing in digital educational media, at the Institute of Educational Science. The professorship was established in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media/Georg Eckert Institute (GEI). His work focuses on the mediality and materiality of educational media.

    New LAGEN Project “Research Consortium Consulting” advises Universities in Lower Saxony

    To sustainably strengthen the chances of success for universities in Lower Saxony in securing national and international funding, the groundbreaking project “Research Consortium Consulting” (FoVerBe) was launched in early March 2026. The project is funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture (MWK) for a term of five years and is established as a collaborative project between the State Working Group of Institutions for Women’s and Gender Studies in Lower Saxony (LAGEN) and the Lower Saxony Scientific Commission (WKN).
